This week I want to talk about GOALS! We should all have them, but how seriously do we take them? How many times have you set a goal and succeeded? How many times have you set a goal and failed? When you set goals, do you stretch yourself?
More often than not, the thing that stands in the way is FEAR. Yep, it is often what stands in the way of success. Believe it or not, many of us have a fear of failure AND a fear of success! Seriously!! Even if we want something, not knowing what is on the other side, can keep us from being successful.
So what do you do? Learn how to manage your mind! First, take a minute and think about what goals you have had or things you wanted to accomplish and you missed the mark. Really dive deep and see what was going on. Did your mind end up on overdrive with all the "what ifs"? You are not alone. This is more common than you might think. Learning to manage your mind can change everything. If you can get that down, you very well may be unstoppable.
Some people can dissect the problem and face it head on. Often, those are the people that seem to be successful in many endeavors or perhaps seem unflappable. They are the ones managing their minds and the fear that comes along with the unknown. Others may need a coach. You can find a coach for just about anything. They definitely are not one size fits all. You need to find someone who gets you. You need someone who is going to stretch you. As they say, "if it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you" and it is true. You need someone who sees your blinds spots. Maybe that is just a really good friend. Regardless, success has never been a solo game. Don't misunderstand, I am not right for everyone, and I certainly don't coach everything. This isn't about me, it's about YOU. What do YOU need. Some people need a loose framework to move forward, while others need more hand holding to get across the finish line. There are many factors that can affect one's belief in self. Have you ever thought about how you really feel about yourself? Your ability to follow through? How capable you are? These answers can help you understand where your strengths and weaknesses are. Some of these answers may even be a response to trauma that has become automatic and that can help you determine if you need a coach and what qualities they need to possess.
This is actually a pretty deep topic. It can be worth taking some time to see where you fall in the continuum. You can begin to understand yourself better and learn where and how you need to grow. It is important to show yourself some grace during this process. It isn't an easy one to go deep. Once you understand how and why you tend to operate the way you do, you can either put some extra steps to keep you on track or find someone to help you or both.
You may be surprised with what you can accomplish!
